U.S.A. | The Grand Canyon

U.S.A. | The Grand Canyon

This was a complete spur-of-the-moment 3-day trip which we 'planned' a few days before departure, but it was well worth it. If you ever feel overwhelmed or stressed out with the daily grind, the Grand Canyon is the perfect place to wipe all your problems into insignificance. The name does not do justice to the grandeur of the place, nor the feeling of Time at a scale so much larger than we can probably even conceive.

MOROCCO | Essaouira

Our trip to Morocco was a kinda last-minute idea due to the cancellation of another trip, so we had not had time to do any sort of research into things to do in that area. Morocco had always been high on my list of places to go, and it still remains there as there are still many things I would like to do and re-do there. In any case, upon arrival we had no idea what or where Essaouira was, but saw that it was a recommended day trip from Marrakesh. What a fantastic recommendation.

NAMIBIA | The Coast: Swakopmund, Walvis Bay & the Skeleton Coast

bout four hours West of Windhoek (or less if you drive as fast as my dad did: "the roads are so big and straight, and there's nobody on the road!") is a coastal resort area, comprising Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and the Skeleton Coast. The drive there itself is beautiful as you may encounter some interesting wildlife on the way (elephants, warthogs, baboons...) and see the spectacularly tall anthills that dot the side of the roads. As you get closer to the coast, the scenery changes quite noticeably. The dry, dusty, parched earth gives way to golden sandy dunes.

NAMIBIA | Etosha National Park

This trip to Namibia seems like a lifetime ago. It was the Summer (by Northern Hemisphere standards) that I was turning 21. I had just finished my undergraduate studies in Europe and had a long break until my Masters course started in Australia. My sister was in the same boat, so my mother, sister and I took advantage of our father's business trip to Namibia to spend 2 months there, volunteering at a local NPO while touring resorts with him. And even though it was so long ago, it seems still as clear in my mind as yesterday.

S E A S O N | Summer

The Maldives seem to hold a magical power of attraction to wanderlusters, myself included. I started dreaming of going there when I was in high school. At that time, it seemed like such a remote destination, and therefore an impossibility. However, as life has it, you never know where you'll end up, and being based in Tokyo for a number of years opened up a whole lot of destinations that had seemed improbable from Europe.
